ohhh the fires

I've been travelling .... and what a travelling time it has been. As stated in my last post, I am visiting my family in Canada. At the moment I am back in Calgary, but that is for the end of this story.

I got to Kelowna on Monday. The trip wasn't too bad. However I did learn that travelling with a baby by yourself isn't the best idea. Cameron was a little cranky ... I think mostly due to the change in the water in his formula [that problem has since been solved and no more cranky gas baby!]

Seeing my father for the first time in almost 2 years was quite tough. His Multiple Sclerosis has really taken its toll. Although he has battled this disease for over 20 years, its hard to see him in a wheel chair being fed because he can't move his arms. I did however get some awesome pictures of Cameron and Him. I think seeing Cameron has made my dad's whole existence. He just can't seem to get enough of him. Of course dad gets indulged completely!

During this time, there was a fire that had started on a place called 'Rattlesnake Island'. Its just a little island. Not inhabitable. A strike of lightening started this fire which quickly grew. It started to head towards town and people in some areas were put on evacuation notice. This was rather shocking since the fire had seemed to be rather far away. No one could tell however where it was [us lay people that is ... not the firefighters], because the smoke was so horrific you couldn't see the hills that surrounds the city. I gave Ralph two examples of what it was like ... the first was after Mt. St. Helen's erupted and ash fell from the sky ... that is what was happening in Kelowna [except for the volcano part]. And the second analogy was to imagine sitting in front of a campfire ... the wind picks up and blows the smoke, ash and embers in your face ... but you don't move, instead you just sit there for 2 days. That is what it has been like. Anyways, on Friday night it got quite scary. There was basically a firestorm that occurred and 20-30,000 people were evacuated from their homes. I could see the fire burning from my bedroom at my aunts house. I am really hoping that these pictures will turn out. Needless to say, I decided to come back to Calgary so my little one wouldn't have to breath in that contaminated air!

BUT ... don't let a little fire or a sick father stop the yarn shopping from happening. I visited two yarn stores while I was in the Okanagan. The Neverending Yarn in Vernon and Kelowna Yarn and Needlecrafts in Kelowna. (they both have websites but I don't have time to link them). I added nicely to my stash!!

horrible host

To all my knitting friends out there ... I am a horrible host when it comes to updating. Life just has thrown me some loops at the moment.

This is quick and short. I am going to be travelling home to Canada to see my father who is ill. However on the upside, I get to visit a ton of great yarn stores in Alberta.

I will be updating as I can, especially once I visit these places. But you will have to wait on pictures for a little bit longer.

Part one...

I have the photo's ... just like I said I would. Now I just have to get them uploaded. [i'll do it this weekend....] I have a bunch of updating on this site to do anyways so I need to spend some quality time with my computer. My knitting has been getting all of my attention and my computer is a little jealous.

I did however spend some time with her last night and this morning working on a new page for my site. I have set up a nutrition and fitness journal to help keep me accountable. I am hoping to get a laptop with a wireless connection soon which will help with the updates.

More knitting news to come later ... Right now I have to go frog 20 rows of colorwork because i forgot to do the armhole shaping *sigh*
