Addicted to knitting

Check out this quiz
I score 24.

20-40 Knitting is causing you to have health
problems and having a detrimental effect on other
aspects of your life and the people around you. You are
a very heavy knitter and should seriously reduce the
amount you knit. Visit your GP for advice. They may
then refer you to other sources of help and support in
cutting down on the amount you knit.

its all about the colors...

Its all about the colors. If the colors don't go together exactly how you need them to, then you need to change the colors. Even if it means going to the yarn store twice in one week for the same project. The drama. The pain. The horror of having to actually go into a yarn store. Its so traumatic. I can't handle it. Being FORCED to go into a yarn store. Being forced to buy yarn. Being forced to knit. What is this world coming to people...

Oh wait. I LOVE DOING ALL THOSE THINGS.

So I have been working on a baby blanket for Ella. A lady who works with my mom. Her baby shower is next weekend and I decided last weekend that I just wasn't happy with the blanket I was working on. Granted the yarn is fantastic - it just wasn't coming together as I envisioned it. I was doing granny squares and was going to put them together with perhaps Plush to give the baby some texture. Anyways. It just wasn't cutting it. So I had to come up with a new plan.

A Log Cabin Blanket ... that was it. It had to be.

So I took off to the yarn store after work. You know. My new favorite. Knit One Chat Too. (It doesn't replace Angel Hair, it just adds to the experience). Anyways. I found some Butterfly 10 that Gina had told me about. Its a great cotton. I bought all jewel tones. I got home and started it right away. However after starting it I wasn't sure about the colors. So I emailed the Goddess of the Log Cabin to ask her advice. After I received it. It was off to the store again to get the few colors needed to make it just right. This blanket needs to be done by THIS SATURDAY. So I'll post a picture once its done. Nothing like a deadline to get the fingers flying.

ALSO, I have signed up for a class that begins the second week in September and goes till the end of November!!! Its about designing your own knitwear ... basically, you find a sweater that you like and you learn how to create the pattern for it, while also knitting it as you go along. I am VERY excited but I now need to find pictures of knitwear that I like. If anyone has any advice let me know. I am going to get some fashion magazines but if anyone comes across some pics let me know!! Please!!

Finally, we have the Dulaan Project 2006:

ITs for a great cause so please, help out by either knitting something, designing a pattern or just getting the word out. My new 'Car knitting' is going to be hats and mittens.

pictures ... finally ...

Hold on to your hats everyone. Yes I have pictures. Amazing. And no the pigs aren't flying. Rather, I finally had some time to take the pictures, finish a project and of course add to my stash. So lets get started.

First off, my finished project. It is the Sleeveless top with a twist by Michele Wyman. Of course there were a few changes to it. First I put in some side shaping to give it more of a womanly form. Secondly, the original pattern had a crewneck sort of thing going on. Well with my b**bs I don't do those well. Vnecks look that much better. So I did that instead. The twist is that there is a mock cable in the rib, on the armbands and neckband.

If you will recall. I had stated that I would finish a project before the end of July. Well I finished it around August 15 so I wasn't too far off. I felt pretty good about it too. The whole point of finishing this project was that I have been having issues finishing things for myself because I'm always under the impression that its not going to fit because I plan on losing the weight. However, some great friends and knitters helped me with my realization that the worst thing that happens is that it doesn't fit me and I get to give it away to someone else who will hopefully appreciate my work.

Now, if you don't already know, I am a yarn addict. Of course, being a yarn addict means getting yarn. At least to me. So here are a few pictures of my current projects and the yarn I have recently purchased to work on them!

ScarfStyle - Color by Color Scarf

The yarn from Needleworks Unlimited

Yarn by South West Trading Company
Its a soy silk/wool blend called Kara
It is a Noro alternative.
The sweater is knit in pieces. Quite cute.

Deep red to hot pink yarn for my mom's scarf

A sock bag and new sock yarn that stripes!

My next big project from Berroco book 237, Wellesley

Wellesley to be knit out of Rowan Classic CashSoft DK
Color 515 - Tape
its a very light green

Orange and Scarlet Butterfly 10 Cotton
I am going to make a tank out of one of these colors.
Just not sure which.
Was thinking the other may be for Eris

So there you have it folks. I even have MORE pictures on my camera but I didn't want to give all the goods away at once!

what do you consider stash

What do you consider your stash?

The reason that I ask is this. I got some yarn today for the color by color scarf in ScarfStyle. Its sitting in a bag on my chair. All together. Not even touched yet. If I put it in with my other yarn for even a half hour and then pull it out again does that mean that its now a part of my stash and no longer 'new yarn'?

Its a question I'm sure that has spanned the times...

As for actual knitting. I am almost done my vest. You know, the one that I said I would finish before the end of July err amend that to August. I just have to pick up the neck and armholes and seam the sides. I hope to get that done this week and take a picture of it.

Then, I will be starting a new project. Perhaps this scarf from ScarfStyle. You know that funky Color by Color one. The yarn has been down in my stash area for awhile. Its kind of aching to be knit up.

Yarnharlot visits Calgary

Yes people. Stephanie from Yarnharlot was in Calgary yesterday. But wait, I didn't even know that she was coming to Calgary until Gina emailed me to let me know.

See Gina and I have been trying to meet up since April. WoW. It was worth the wait. She is a great lady. And her birthday was two days ago. Her kids threw her a suprise birthday party....(check out her blog for the details).

Anyways. We met up and got to listen to the YarnHarlot herself. Stephanie is funny and witty ... and her being nervous of speaking in crowds ... you wouldn't have guessed it. The insight that she has of knitting ... well ... I okay so I knew that she had the insight from her book. But, its the fact that I was there listening to someone else saying the exact things that I had thought so many times.

Speaking of which. I got to hold it. How awesome is that? Oh you don't know what it is? Here let me show you:

I am an official 'human' groupie!

Click here for more adventures of the sock and his travels.

After the reading and book signing, we were able to steal the lady of the moment away and go for some drinks. It was an awesome time. I haven't been 'out' other than to get my nails done etc. since I moved here. Getting a babysitter and then actually planning going out always seems to be way more difficult than just spending a nice relaxing night at home knitting and reading blogs. But, I loved it and it helped me to realize that I have needed to do this and I will continue to go out.
