January 31, 2006quickieJust a quickie! I lost 2.5 lbs this week. Who knew that exercise and eating right really DOES work... I have updated my sidebar with my projects, not including socks. Also, I have put links to the KALs i've decided to join thus far this year. Pictures, I promise. I am 50% done my next KWYW sweater. AND I think my teacher has helped me figure out my issues with the first sweater and why the arms wouldn't fit. Posted by Morgan at 9:33 PM

January 29, 2006Week in ReviewArg. Okay, my sweater from my fall Knits with your Wits class has me bitter. Well, not that bitter, but bitter enough. I finally took some time today and pinned the arms in. They are about 2 inches too long in the armhole shaping. *sigh* so I will be ripping out and reknitting me thinks. I have almost finished one toe of one sock. I have cast on for the second sock and will be working on it tomorrow. I ate on plan 95% this week. I did not eat either of the two lunches provided at work, or the cupcakes or the donuts. Willpower babbbbbeeee. I worked out EVERY day this week. I know that I am down this week. I really am trying to get to 175 before I go away. I don't think its going to happen because the trip is in two weeks, however, I think that if I am continuously working out and eating I am making bigger changes than a mere weight loss. OH and I have connected with even MORE bloggers in Calgary. I took some pictures (that I'm too tired to post right now thus the longish boring post) of my works in progress. I signed up for the Sweaters from Camp knitalong that is starting in Feb. What else, OH I've been knitting from my stash and am recommitted to doing the Master Knitting program.

January 27, 2006Where did the week go?I can't believe its been a week since I last posted. I have been doing stuff on the site, like tracking my workouts, but no major posts. I didn't lose any weight at my weigh in on Tuesday, however, I was ok with that since I had overindulged on my birthday weekend. Dinner, drinks, birthday cake...little exercise. It all adds up. I made the decision on Monday to stick to my plan 95%, exercise and give up Tim Hortons and Starbucks for the week. I think I had a mental lapse at the time. It is my week to pms. Silly girl that I am, didn't really think of that. I get really strong cravings when its that time of the month. Anyways, its now friday. I haven't had a starbucks or a tims all week. I did not eat any of the sandwiches or desserts at our Monday lunchtime meeting. I did not succomb to my cravings on Thursday to stuff my face with cookies. Today I again did not eat at the luncheon. I instead took home all the leftover veggies and had 1/5 of a cupcake rather than a whole fattening one. So. I am basically stating that I am quite proud of myself for keeping with my plan. For sticking with it. KNITTING I am almost done my first sock of 2006. I actually have never finished a pair of socks for me. So this will be a first! I have cast on for the second sock. Monday with my Knits with your Wits (KWYW) class. I have swatched and ripped and designed. Once I get something substantial on the needles I will post a picture. Other KWYW class sweater - I am having issues putting it together and don't have the patience to fiddle with it. I am hoping to attack it this weekend. Secret knitting - I am having issues getting the gauge. But I am plugging along. Hopefully.... Posted by Morgan at 6:50 PM

January 19, 2006KAL #2 of the YearOkay, I've decided to join another KAL. Originally I was going to sit on the sidelines for the Olympics, especially since I will be away during this time for my healthy spa trip. Anyways, I figured I would tackle Lara. I am about 40% done and haven't touched it since before the holidays. If I take that with me plus some sock yarn and one other project I should be set. I don't think that I will have a ton of energy to knit, but who knows. I might. I might feel renewed! Then again, with all the exercise and fresh air, I'll probably be asleep by 8! Plus, today is my birthday, I'm a whole year older. Isn't that funny how that works? And the other reason that I've joined this KAL is that I really want to FINISH some of my projects. I am not good at it. I need to fix it. So this is one way of doing it! Posted by Morgan at 8:19 PM

January 18, 2006A Healthier Me - part 4I got too busy yesterday to post my update for the week. I am down a half a pound! GOODBYE 180s! They are gone. I won't go back there. I won't! Secondly, I DID book a trip to a spa. I am going to a WHOLE 7 NIGHTS! Ralph will be with Cameron and I won't have to worry about a thing. 3 hours of workingout a day, plus great food and at least 2 spa treatments a day AND HORSES! I am sooooo pumped. I have four weeks to lose 5 lbs. I know I can do this. I know it. KNITTING CONTENT: I have finally put the sweater on the blocking board. I know I need another SPACEBOARD *hint hint Ralph*. I couldn't fit all 5 pieces of the sweater on it. So its half now and half later. I also bought some different yarn to put the sweater together with. Progress! WORK: Today I was officially hired by my company. No longer am I on contract work. I now have benefits! I am very happy and excited about this. It takes away some of the anxiety about where my life is going and what I am doing with it. Posted by Morgan at 9:24 PM

January 15, 2006A Healthier Me - part 3 plus someWell Well. Sometimes being healthy is not just about what you eat, but about what you do in your surroundings. Last weekend it was cleaning my kitchen, getting rid of ALL the stray papers that I had laying around and organizing cupboards. This weekend, I have spent the last 4 hours (easily) cleaning and organizing my bedroom. FOUR HOURS you ask. Well lets see. I could NOT walk into my walk in closet. Pretty pathetic! But now my whole room is clutter free. I have also moved Cameron from the small room he was in to the bigger bedroom. I had him in the smaller one as my sister was contemplating moving in with me for 6 months or so. That is off so now the boy gets the bigger bedroom AND a bigger boy bed. Not to be confused with a big boy bed (twin bed). In organizing my room I also organized his. So really it was two rooms today. I also was able to fill two green garbage bags with clothing from him and me that will go to someone else. KNITTING CONTENT: I have finished the main part of my Knit with your Wits sweater. I tried putting it together the other night before blocking it and it didn't look very good. So I'm going to have to put it on the blocking board today. I also am going to have to get a different yarn to put it together with. Rowan's Felted Tweed tends to break easily. Though at the moment its up there as one of my favorites. I'll get some pictures of it on the blocking board. Also, I have been thinking about my next Knit with Your Wits class that starts on the 23rd. I have an idea ... I'll share it later. *g* Furthermore, I am working on a secret project for dominKNITrix's new book! I'll give some teasers of it ... if you are good blog readers. Posted by Morgan at 3:46 PM

January 10, 2006A Healthier Me - part 2Today is Tuesday - thus its weigh in day with Jenny Craig. I was feeling good about the fact that I had been drinking my water and eating mostly on plan this week. I was suprised however that I am down 1.7 lbs. Unfortunately, I can't do be weighed in without my clothing on or i'm sure it would have been more *g*. I do try to wear the same type of clothing each time so that its more consistent. I was feeling SO great about my weight loss that I had Opa for lunch. Talk about blowing my day in calories! C'est la vie. My goal for the week was to get up each day and work out each work day morning. So far I am 2 for 2. It has taken me a bit to get out of bed each morning so the workouts have only been about ten minutes before I have to start getting ready for work. However, I am proud of myself for actually DOING it! I had been planning on going to hot Yoga and Curves in the next two weeks, but I was feeling good this afternoon (plus remember there is Opa to work off!) so I went to a hot yoga class. I have been before, that was about 4 years ago before I got pregnant with Cameron. It was great then. Its even better now. Its challenging and I'm stiff now but a good stiff. And the sweat. Amazing! I am going to be treating myself to a stay at a health spa. I'm not sure where or when but I am going to do it as a reward for keeping up with my goals. This will be a HUGE motivator to keep going!! January 9, 2006Knitting and the BachelorSo I am knitting away on my 'Knit with Your Wits' sweater. I want to get it done before the next session starts on January 23!! I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have four inches left on the back ... then its putting it together and doing the finishing touches. A finished project. And it might even happen before the end of the very first month of 2006. Of course, its Monday night and not a whole lot was on TV. But the new season of the Bachelor has started. All I can say is that I see the one's that I like already and the one's that need to go! Women are brutal!! Especially when a man is in the middle of it! Anyways, I'll be hopefully posting some pictures soon. Oh and then there is the mystery project *grins* But since its a mystery I'll plan on keeping it that way. One good thing about knitting so much is that it keeps me from my late night snacking. I am trying to not eat past 8pm at night and drink my water and tea. But the knawing feeling in my tummy and that little voice in my head saying 'eat some chocolate, sabatoge yourself' cries out to me. But I just keep knitting and before I know it some time has past and I've pushed the voice aside. A little while later and its a half and hour. Then longer still. It works well. January 8, 2006errr i forgot to mention...Okay so I was a bit remiss last night when it comes to the restaurant that we went to. Amy pointed this out, which is good as I would have completely forgotten! (though it helps that we live in the same city so sharing recommendations is actually VERY important!) The restaurant is called Bistro 2210 on 4th Ave SW. A review of the restaurant can be found here. Just reading it made my mouth water as my body remembered the awesome food that I consumed last night! So if you are ever in Calgary, you just might want to check it out. Posted by Morgan at 11:17 AM

January 7, 2006a little KIP'ingMy aunt is in town from Paris. The reason that she is in town is because we had a family gathering for the holidays. You might wonder why that is such a big deal but for us this year it was. My Uncle and his Wife both have cancer. His is liver and hers is breast (second time around). So, ths was an important time for our family. It was fantastic to see all of my family again. Since I had been gone I haven't been to a full blown family event in years. I did spent a large amount of time knitting through this, but thats to be expected right? When people are sitting around talking why should I just sit there and be unproductive? Anyways, back to the knitting in public. Tonight is my aunts last night in town so we went out for dinner. First off, it was a GREAT restaurant. Fancy, but not too. The food presentation was phenomenal. Well after a glass of wine, I pulled out my socks. Yes I did it. Fancy restaurant and all. Socks. Knitting away while everyone is talking. My cousins best friend was there and she thought it was hilarious. So she took lots of pictures. I can be a classy chick sometimes. Posted by Morgan at 11:21 PM

January 3, 2006A Healthier Me - part 1A Healthier Me. You will be seeing these posts regularly on this blog. This is NOT a New Years Resolution. I have been writing about my health and weightloss (or lack of) elsewhere for some time. However, keeping more than one blog going at a time makes it so that I end up having inconsistent posting. To solve this I have decided not to hide behind the anonminity of an unknown name while I talk about the changes that I am making to my mind, body and life! Tuesdays is the day that I go to Jenny Craig. I had let myself go off program during the whole month of December. With all the parties and food I knew that there was no way I would be able to stay on track. Unfortunately, at the same time I also didn't keep up with my exercise nor drinking my water. I try to drink between 2-3 litres of water a day and at most I was lucky to get one litre, if that. My weigh in today was actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I came in at 182. I thought I would be more than that since my clothes were starting to feel super tight. Its easy to see why a person can gain weight so easily. I gained 4lbs in a month. If I kept eating like that and didn't work out that would be 48lbs a year. Amazing. Considering that I could gain that in a year, losing less than that shouldn't be so hard. Right? My goal weight is between 135-145. I am not sure where I will be comfortable so once I know that, my goal weight will be established. I had meant to get up and work out this morning but that didn't happen, so I came home after work and did it then. I am going to aim at getting up before work every day and doing a minimum of 20 minutes on the eliptical, then go to Curves 2-3 times a week after work. Right now I am not focussed so much on the amount of time that I do, rather, its more about the fact that I'm acutally doing it. I want to change my life to be healthier, not skinnier. I also think that there needs to be a motivator. Mine is my son. I don't want him to grow up being lazy and fat because his mom is. I want him to see that working out is good and being active is healthy. That eating properly makes you feel good and crap food is not something to indulge in daily. Sure we have treats. Heck, my plan lets me have chocolate cake and cheesies daily, however, its all about moderation and portion sizes. Tonight, I put out a plate of apples and cucumbers. Cameron right away went for the cucumber. He loves them. I know that right now its up to me to teach him what is healthy and what isn't. So, here is the non knitting content of the blog. One of the reasons I love the zen layout so much. Because that is where I am trying to get myself. Into that Zen state of being. Plus, just one more reason why knitting is good. When I knit, I don't eat, because I am too consumed with knitting! Posted by Morgan at 8:20 PM

I was able to get done the decrease part of the lower half of my sweater back and am now on the increase part. Then its time to decrease for the armholes!. I see light. I see it!!
